We all recognise the need for affordable homes. But in proportion to the need. The justification for large-scale housing development according to the 2009 questionnaire is weak.
It is important that you have your say on the Derbyshire Dales and High Peak proposals. If they go ahead, the appearance and character of Chapel-en-le-Frith would change dramatically. Not to mention the impact on roads, local services, etc.
The end figure for the number of houses to be built in this area was arrived at through central government identifying what they suggest will be the need for this area. However this figure is not purely for OUR need as a town and a community. The proposed housing will be for sale on the open market and not designated specifically for local people, and so the governments figure will NOT be based on the genuine figure of houses required for the actual need for our area. Therefore Chapel could morph into a characterless commuter settlement rather than remain the idyllic country town which it currently is.
